SUPPLEMENTS 101
You are what you eat. Sometimes, though, even eating is not enough.
After the age of 40, especially with men, the body starts to change dramatically. Compounded with a sedentary lifestyle, suddenly you have a weaker cardiovascular system, lower libido (due to lower Testosterone levels), slower metabolic rate, less muscle mass, lower Growth Hormone secretions, bone depletion, hair loss, sleep loss, estrogen build-up giving rise to male boobs, sugar cravings, higher blood sugar, the list goes on. You are not functioning like a 20-something anymore. You are climbing Mount Everest and its uphill all the way. By the time you get to the top of the mountain, when you are 90-something, you are wasted. Just like mountain-climbers you need to prepare for that ascent at base camp. Exercise and healthy eating is your base camp that will allow you to make it to the top in one piece. I train only so that I can look good when they lay me down in the casket. I take a multi-vitamin, and because I don't eat steaks or any red meats which contains Creatine, I supplement with Creatine every other day. I don't like the idea of chemicals shutting down the natural production of my testosterone or HGH, hence I have always stayed away from steroids or HGH. I know many people take HGH in their advanced years, but after looking at the side effects, I am going to pass. Needless to say, Steroids are a losing proposition. I would like to find a good Estrogen blocker which will allow my natural Testosterone to function more effectively, There must be something out there apart from eating broccoli. I do take Yohimbe, Taurine, and Tribulus. This stack helps me get that extra 'umph' that I used to have back in my twenties. I find when I get off the stack my body's natural testosterone production will bounce back dramatically, and then taper off again. For recuperation, I highly recommend Tryptophane in combination with L-Glutamine and Essential Amino Acids. The rationale is that muscles need Nitrogen to regenerate (after we break them down in a workout), which can be derived from Amino Acids after Protein is digested. I stay away from energy drinks and any kind of stimulant that makes me feel wired and edgy. |
